FAQs for Lab Owners

Home » FAQs for Lab Owners
1. Is outsourcing right for me?

If one or more of the following statements apply to you, then YES, outsourcing is the right solution for you:

  • I want to expand my business without investing any additional capital
  • I would like to increase my profits without having to raise my fees
  • I need to work less hours at the bench
  • I have difficultly finding qualified/loyal technicians
  • I am losing doctors to my competitors who are offering lower prices

Many dental lab owners are being squeezed by increasing overhead and labor costs not to mention the large price tags on the new equipment that they feel pressured to purchase. It is no wonder that many labs are complaining about stresses to their profitability.  Fortunately, outsourcing allows domestic laboratories to continue servicing their market, and even expand their client base, without having to make any large investment in additional space, materials, technicians, or machinery.

2. How much money can I make through outsourcing?

It’s all in the numbers and it’s not complicated.  Here is a simple, yet realistic scenario for the typical Dentalle client:

XYZ Dental Lab Volume = 200 units per month
Average restoration cost = $53
Average resell price = $110
XYZ’s overhead per unit = $10
Profit per unit = $47
Total profit per month = $9,400/month

Annual Profit = $112,800

Of course, the above projections can vary, but some Dentalle customers have earned far greater profits than even the above.

3. Is there a minimum number I have to send at a time?

No. Dentalle allows labs and groups of all sizes to utilize our services regardless of how many cases you can send a time.  Of course, the more you send, the less you pay since we provide FREE SHIPPING when 10+ units are sent and also give discounts for larger volumes!

4. Do I have to pay for shipping?

No. Dentalle provides clients with the company’s FedEx account number and pays for ROUND TRIP shipping for all clients.  The only time a nominal shipping surcharge will occur is if a Silver client sends less than 4 units.

5. What do I need to send with each case?

You are welcome to send an impression for most cases or if you prefer to pour your own model, we can work with that too.  Bite registrations and additional materials necessary to manufacture the case should also be sent when applicable.  Since you will be entering the Rx online, you do not need to send a paper Rx.  Instead, you will print out a packing slip to accompany each order in your shipment.  We also accept digital files for zirconia restorations!

6. Are the materials really safe?

Yes.  Every restoration manufactured in Dentalle’s laboratory is made using the finest branded materials from the most reputable companies in the industry.  Every restoration is returned with an IdentAlloy Sticker confirming the materials used.  All materials have passed the United States FDA 501 (k) certification standards dating back to 1996 under Title 21, Chapter 1, Subchapter H of the United States Code of Federal Regulations. Dentalle assures you that the health and safety of our US consumers comes first. More information about the materials and the companies that supply them can be found on the Products Page

7. Do I have to be FDA registered?

No, however those clients who are FDA registered and have enough units to send, are eligible for a discount and a quicker turnaround time.

For more information on the registration process, visit the FDA website http://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/DeviceRegulationandGuidance/HowtoMarketYourDevice/RegistrationandListing/ucm053185.htm

8. Do I have to pay a Medical Device Excise Tax when I outsource overseas?

No! Not at this time.

There has been a recent Tax Law Change to the Medical Device Excise Tax:

The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2016 (Pub. L. 114-113), signed into law on Dec. 18, 2015, includes a two year moratorium on the medical device excise tax imposed by Internal Revenue Code section 4191. Thus, the medical device excise tax does not apply to the sale of a taxable medical device by the manufacturer, producer, or importer of the device during the period beginning on Jan. 1, 2016, and ending on Dec. 31, 2017.

9. What is Dentalle’s Warranty/Remake Policy?

Dentalle offers a 5 year warranty on all materials.  In most situations, a case will be repaired free of charge however, there may be additional charges in the following circumstances:

  • If the original dental restoration is not returned to us.
  • If the case is re-prepped and a new impression is sent.
  • If the shade is different from the original order.
  • If the restoration materials are different from the original order.
  • If the lab asked for a new impression and you asked us to proceed without one.
  • If the lab advised you that we could not guarantee the quality of this order and you asked us to proceed anyway.
  • If the lab requested a try-in and you asked us to proceed without one.
  • If the lab received no study model for anterior cases and/or no specific directions.
10. Will my doctor and patient information be secure?
